Research for the People
The ÈýÒÚÌåÓý¹ÙÍø invests most of its nearly $48 billion budget1 in medical research for the American people.
Nearly 82 percent2 of ÈýÒÚÌåÓý¹ÙÍø’s funding is awarded for , largely through almost 50,000 to more than 300,000 researchers at more than 2,500 universities, medical schools, and other research institutions in every state.
In addition, approximately 11 percent2 of the ÈýÒÚÌåÓý¹ÙÍø's budget supports projects conducted by , most of which are on the ÈýÒÚÌåÓý¹ÙÍø campus in Bethesda, Maryland. The remaining 6 percent2 covers research support, administrative, and facility construction, maintenance, or operational costs.
